Advantages of ms2 (sheet preserving)TRAM flap , over conventional TRAM flap for breast reconstruction.
In conventional TRAM flap the entire muscle is taken. In ms2 (sheet preserving) TRAM flap a lateral and a medial strip of muscle are preserved.
Scince 1994 the same surgeon performed 705 breast reconstructions using ms2 ( sheet preserving) TRAM flap.
It has produced a more secure closure , protected the integrity of the semilunar(spiegel’s) line and prevents retraction of the inferior portion of the rectus abdominis muscle which preserves the inferior inscription of the muscle to support the lower abdomen.
In general it has produced a stronger and more competent abdominal wall in comparison with conventional TRAM flap.
